Abstract:

21st century is the century for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All of us in the world need to commit to contribute to SDGs. Civil engineering has the great role for SDGs, which is recognized by not only civil engineers but also experts in other than civil engineers.Civil engineering possesses both positive and negative aspects to achieve SDGs, including achieving Carbon Neutrality (CN). Structures and system of structures, created by civil engineering, are necessary to achieve SDGs but also can be the obstruction to achieve SDGs.Civil engineers should know their role for SDGs and work together with local community and with international partners. Both domestic and international organizations in civil engineering can provide the platform among civil engineers to work together. Life cycle management (LCM) of structures is one of the key engineering activities to achieve SDGs. We should be aware of the importance of LCM and improve the relevant technologies by advancing knowledges. Intervention, repair and strengthening, to extend service life of structures is one of those technologies. Standardization for LCM is also necessary for greater adaptation of LCM concept through the world.
